Dry Scalp Treatment

This treatment is used to treat dry scalp caused by a low production rate of sebum by re-nourishing the scalp. Other than that, an additional consumption of vitamins B6 and B12 through supplements such as zinc could also serve to re-nourish the scalp. In cases where the dry scalp is caused by using excessively strong shampoos, hair products or from over-frequent use of shampoo, the common remedy would be to switch to a shampoo with a milder formula, avoid hair products that contain alcohol and limit the use of heat appliances. Dry scalp can also be caused by dietary problems that would be best cured by avoiding over-ingestion of sugary, spicy and salty foods as well as alcohol.
There are also several remedies that are used specially to treat the dandruff-like symptoms of dry scalp such as medicated lotions and shampoos (Usually containing zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, or selenium oxide) available over the counter in local drugstores that help clear up the dandruff through daily use over a few weeks. Other treatments include the use of tea tree oil, coal tar lotions, selenium and salicylic acid based shampoos that help clear the flaky scales. However, it is always wise to consult a doctor before trying any form of dry scalp treatment as not to accidentally aggravate the condition further.
